Coronavirus (COVID-19) response: Keys Co-operative Academy Trust

A LETTER TO ALL PARENTS/CARERS FROM CLAIRE KERSHAW, DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION FOR ESSEX COUNTY COUNCIL CAN BE READ HERE

We continue to follow all government guidelines and therefore from Monday 23rd March 2020 our schools will be closed for all children, except for children of critical workers and vulnerable children who cannot be kept safely at home.

The most recent scientific advice on how to further limit the spread of coronavirus is clear. If children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading. The fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society.

That is why the government has asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and have asked schools to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.

At our schools we are making plans to open for the following children if they absolutely need to attend if parents/carers are unable to keep children safe at home :

  • Children supported by social care

  • Children who have an EHCP

  • Children with disabilities

  • Children whose parents/carers work in one of the critical sectors as defined by the Government, and do not have any childcare arrangements in place to keep the child safely at home. A full list of the examples of critical workers can be found here.

Specific arrangements for Heybridge Co-operative Academy and North East Essex Co-operative Academy, PRU’s:

From Monday 23rd March, for children who are unable to stay safe at home:

  • The school day will start at 10am and finish at 2pm.

  • Children will also be offered food.

  • We will keep the focus on learning and maintaining as much normality for them as possible.

Specific arrangements for The Endeavour Co-operative Academy:

From Monday 23rd March, for children who are unable to stay safe at home:

  • The school day will stay the same.

  • Children who receive Free School Meals will be offered food.

  • We will keep the focus on learning and maintaining as much normality for them as possible.

We are continuing to follow the government guidance for social distancing and self-isolation for staff and pupils who are continuing to attend the school :

We ask that staff, young people and children should stay at home if they are unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature to avoid spreading infection to others.

If staff, young people or children become unwell on site with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature they will be sent home if appropriate or we will ask for them to be collected.

We are asking staff and pupils to continue to follow the guidance for staying at home:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance

  • if you live alone and you have symptoms of coronavirus illness (COVID-19), however mild, stay at home for 7 days from when your symptoms started. (See ending isolation section for more information)

  • if you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill

We are recommending staff and pupils follow the guidance on social distancing and for vulnerable people:

We are advising staff, young people and children to stay at home if they fall in to the following categories:

- aged 70 or older (regardless of medical conditions)

- under 70 with an underlying health condition listed below (ie anyone instructed to get a flu jab as an adult each year on medical grounds):
